Background Info:
History: Have a summary of the film here! And a summary of the character himself here!
Personality: The Joker is an INSANE clown with a very morbid sense of humor. He describes himself as “a dog chasing cars,” who wouldn’t know what to do with one if he caught it. He lives for the thrill of the chase, robbing banks and killing his own henchmen for sport. Though he is offered gratuitous amounts of money for his services, he’d sooner watch it all burn. He prefers knives over guns, as guns kill too quickly and do not leave room to savor the “little moments.”

He considers himself far above ordinary social custom, acting out against society in order to draw attention to himself and his cause. What is the method to his madness? It all hinges on rules. Everyone has rules: the police, the mob, the government, Batman… The Joker is different from all of them: he has no rules. He considers the ideal world to be a world without rules. He believes that “civilized people” live under false pretenses. Their morals are nothing but a bad joke, and can be lost easily, given the circumstances. He believes that in a world of chaos and fear, everyone would stop following the rules and show their true colors. In that respect, he considers himself an enlightened one “ahead of the curve.” Nonetheless, he is an extreme social deviant who lives for anarchy in order to dislodge the higher powers and upset the established order. He is quick to differentiate himself from the police, the government, and the rest of the “schemers.” The Joker, rather, exists to show the schemers just how wrong they really are about the world. He is a criminal, a mass-murderer, and a psychopath, but above all else, he is an Agent of Chaos.

It’s also quite evident that he cares more about his mission than he does about himself. He shows little regard for his own safety, challenging people to try and kill him. You could pummel and bruise him, or throw him out of a building, and he wouldn’t flinch. He’d simply laugh his head off all the way. He also shows little regard in proper care of his makeup, letting the paint smear all over his face and scars. Despite these deficiencies in self-care, he does tend to get riled up when people refer to him as a “freak.”

The Joker’s relationship with his rival, Batman, is quite a unique one. The Joker is obsessed with Dark Knight, considering him a lunatic. However, Batman seems to deny this lunacy by maintaining a charade that everything makes sense. Though the Batman is just another “freak like him,” he’s become a crusader for justice, rather than chaos. Over time, the Joker comes to terms with his relationship with Batman, claiming that the Dark Knight “completes” him. Both the Joker and Batman are two sides of the same coin. One crusades for justice and order, the other for chaos and anarchy. The Joker wants to demonstrate that Batman, along with the rest of the world, is just as crazy as he. And Batman fights back, in order to show that his way works. Both sides are unrelenting in this eternal struggle, and refuse to kill each other for their own reasons. Batman won’t kill the Joker, out of his refusal to kill. And the Joker won’t kill Batman because “he’s just too much fun.” Nonetheless, the Joker desires to prove Batman wrong by compromising the Dark Knight’s order and forcing him to kill.

Finally, in regards to his origins, the Joker tends to tell tales of “how he got his scars” to his enemies and victims. Each story, however, is contradictory; no two stories are the exact same. For example, one of his stories involved him getting his scars as a result of child abuse. Another involved him dealing the scars to himself in an act of self-mutilation. His true origins are indeed questionable. It could even be argued that not even the Joker himself knows how he came to be.

Game Specific:
Arcana: Devil
Justification: The Devil Arcana represents "the urge to do selfish, impulsive, violent things and be slave to ones' own impulse and feelings." As a self-proclaimed "Agent of Chaos," it's entirely clear that the Joker sees little reason to restrain himself from going out and committing horrific atrocities simply for the sake of doing so.

The Joker tapped his foot impatiently, shifting back and forth as he waited for the elevator to come to a halt. This was just the way it always was for him, really. Another new week, another humble new abode to keep him nice and cozy. Always on the move. That's just how he'd been in Gotham, and that's how it would stay in Prospero.

He placed his hands in the pockets of his long overcoat, fingers riffling through a small collection of knives. Good thing the Joker traveled so light. Right?

This week? He felt like treating himself. To a nice, relaxing stay at the Bay View Hotel. Well... for him, anyway. Perhaps not so relaxing for the person whose room he'd be snagging. Oh, sure, there were vacancies. But didn't this make it all the more fun? He hadn't even bothered checking in at the main desk. Didn't even bother asking which rooms were available and which were occupied. It'd be a game of chance. Just the sort of game he enjoyed.

When he stepped off the elevator, he took a few steps into the hallway, a bit of a spring in his step. Placing a gloved hand over his eyes, he extended his other hand out, pointing at the doors that lined the hall and alternating between them at random.

"Eeny... meeny... miney..." He uncovered his face, his fiendish eyes glowing as he came across the door to the room he'd chosen. "Mine."

Was someone already living there, though? Did it even matter? Not to him. Hell, he almost hoped there'd be someone on the other side waiting for him. He always did love a captive audience. Without any warning, the Joker marched over to the door and kicked it in. Hard.

"Housekeeping?"
